After introducing herself, Christine Blasey Ford started her testimony with, “I am here today not because I want to be. I am terrified.”

Sen. Cory Booker’s delivery of coffee to Christine Blasey Ford as she sat at the witness table during Thursday’s Senate Judiciary Committee has become an internet sensation.

A visibly nervous and “terrified” Ford, about to testify before a global television audience that Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her more than 30 years ago, told senators she was going to need a boost.

“I think after reading my opening testimony, I anticipate needing some caffeine if that is available,” she said.

Booker, a New Jersey Democrat and member of the committee – and Ford fan – was happy to oblige. And the internet went wild.

After she delivered her opening statement, Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley asked if she needed to take a break.

Ford held up a cup.

“I’m OK, I got the coffee, she replied. “I think I can proceed and sip on the coffee.”

Grassley cut in with a light moment: “Nobody can mix up my coffee right. So you’re pretty fortunate.”
